Planting Roots, Together Capital Campaign

Help us renovate our building and build our future to continue to empower women!

Fresh Start needs your help to remodel our building at 6433 Havelock Ave. A capital campaign which began quietly in 2020 has raised more than $1,358,000 of its $1.5 million goal. Funds raised so far include $274,350 in Lancaster County ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding as well as donations from individuals, companies and foundations.

“While our 90-year old building has served us well, we need to modernize the building to make it more functional for residents today and in the future,” said Monica Zinke, Executive Director of Fresh Start. “One of the most critical needs emerged from the pandemic when our residents had to share the only private space to take telehealth appointments or have conversations that required privacy.”

In addition to repairs to address wear-and-tear and safety of the large, spacious kitchen, the remodel will turn underutilized spaces into computer areas for filling out applications and researching resources. Additional spaces of respite will be created in the loft and the outside courtyard will be refreshed for greater usability.

“The positive environment inside the walls of Fresh Start has improved situations, reunited families and even saved lives,” said Michael Reinmiller, Past President of the Board and member of the Capital Campaign Committee. “Gifts of all sizes will help make these spaces better suited for women in our community to continue to change their lives for the better.”

We have just 9% left to go- help us cross the finish line!
