Volunteer

There are several ways to volunteer with Fresh Start. Please call our office at 402.475.7777 if you are interested in any of these opportunities.
-
The Daisy Thrift Shop
The Daisy Thrift Shop is operated completely by volunteers. Volunteers serve as clothing sorters, shop clerks and on a management committee. Sorters come at various times. Shop clerks rotate working a shift when the shop is open, Fridays and Saturdays from 10AM - 4PM.
-
Special Events
Special event volunteers help plan events and also help staff Fresh Start booths at community events. You could also help us plan and organize our fundraisers, such as our signature event Project Funway in the fall. A few examples of event help include: mailings, setup and clean up before and after events, distributing flyers, etc. Call our office, or email Monica at monicaz@freshstarthome.org for more information.
-
Lead workshops
Volunteers also lead workshops for the residents. Workshops occur each Tuesday from 7-8PM and are about a wide variety of topics such as arts and crafts, skill building, and self-sufficiency. There have been workshops on everything from employment search to basic car care, from stress management to salsa dancing. Volunteers pick their own topics.
-
Office assistant
Office assistance is very much appreciated. Usually there is only one staff member on duty at a time; volunteers who are available during the day to help accept donations or answer the phones are always needed.
-
Provide miscellaneous help
One option is is a one-day group service project, such as yard clean-up, cleaning, etc. We also appreciate volunteers to help with facility maintenance and handyman services
-
Serving on the Board of Directors is another way to volunteer. Board members help guide the organization, specifically with fiscal oversight. Board meetings occur monthly and committees meet every 1-2 months. Community members also can join a committee of the Board of Directors, without becoming a full board member. Currently, our committees are: finance and personnel, marketing and community engagement, fund development, and board development.

Sunday Night Suppers
Groups may provide supper for the shelter residents on Sunday nights.
